Welcome to Worthing Striders

In 1996, thirty running friends decided they would like to form their own running club which would be geared to the type of running they enjoyed. The basic idea was to start an adult running club with the minimum of rules and fuss that concentrated on road, off road and cross country running - AND SO - Worthing Striders was born. Over meetings in pubs and cafes after races, a logo was agreed and our club colours of orange with a black band were chosen so that we would be easily recognisable at races. West Worthing Tennis and Squash Club (known as West Worthing Club) was selected as our club headquarters because of its excellent facilities and its close proximity to the South Downs. Our original principles still hold firm but we have had to become a little more formal to comply with all the new rules and regulations.
We are not a large club but we have grown in numbers and encourage all our members to “have a go” without applying any pressure and enjoy their running. Worthing Striders is a friendly running club for runners of all abilities.
Worthing Striders participate in all types of races from fun runs and 5Ks up to ultra running with the longest run being the Grand Union Canal Challenge at 145 miles. We are a mixture of experienced runners, runners returning to the sport and beginners. We also have a good balance of age groups with 50% male and female runners, so there will always be someone for you to run with. Worthing Striders are known as a friendly club who have fun so a good sense of humour is essential.
Throughout the year we hold various social functions and charity events with food and drink featuring high on the Striders' agenda - some races being selected on the quality of the after race cakes. A number of our training or racing nights round off with a roast or a curry. (At least it gives us an excuse to run)
Worthing Striders organise two races each year - the Highdown Hike in August, which is part of the West Sussex Fun Run League, and the Downland Devil 9 in December.
If you would like to give Worthing Striders and running a go, come and run with us for a couple of weeks to see if we are the right club for you. We want you to enjoy your running.
